The ABC news and other online news outlets have reported the arrest of Australian doctor Sarah Kemp and other 16 foreign doctors on the ground of practicing medicine without accreditation.

The action which was spearheaded by Nepal’s top medical body saw the arrest of foreign doctors practicing illegally in various hospitals across Kathmandu.

The Director of Central Investigation Bureau in Nepal said practicing without authorisation from the Nepal Medical Council is a punishable offence and is tantamount to 3 years imprisonment.

Dr Kemp is originally from Sydney where she practiced as a GP. News reports thus far about the incident are unclear as to whether Dr Kemp is a director or only contractor of the Kathmandu Travel Medicine Clinic, under which the foreign doctors were treating tourists, foreign diplomats and others in Nepal.
