A Physiotherapist’s Interview Preparation

A Physiotherapist’s Interview Preparation

Published By Anjana , 3 years ago

It has been a norm for physiotherapy students to dress casually even during their college days. Dressing in usual athletic casual dress was one of the ways physiotherapy students appear in their classes and even in practicum. Nevertheless, one should acknowledge that entering the professional world could entirely be different. Changes in attitudes towards appropriate attire should be done especially when entering a job interview.

One should be mindful that the main objective of dressing appropriately during an interview is to ensure the confidence, competency, and professionalism of the applicant. Also, it should not be streaky to avoid making unnecessary statements and deflect the attention of the panel.

The first impression means everything. It could leave a lasting impact on other people regarding what kind of person you are. Especially during interviews, panelists are very mindful about this so it is very crucial to leave a good impression.

Primarily, in an interview, it is important to keep in mind that the purpose of the applicant is to dress to impress. That is a reality that should not be taken for granted as it could determine the whole track of the application process afterward.

For the Ladies

It is recommended to dress in a dark-colored, well-fitted suit with knee-length or below skirt or trousers. Socks must be appropriated with trousers or skirts. The appropriate is to wear dark-colored socks if trousers or skin color if otherwise. Blouses should have their necks opened with no look to cut. Shoes should be closed and low-heel leathered one that could be managed easily. The nails should be cleaned and manicured in natural color. Also, make-ups should be natural and apply minimal perfume and jewelry.

For the Gentlemen

The recommended dress for gentlemen should be a dark-colored and well-fitted suit. Avoid dark-colored long sleeves on the inside. Instead, wear white or light blue. On ties, avoid random-patterned with quirky designs. Socks should be dark without designs worn over black shoes. Facial hair should be unnoticeable or cleanly trimmed. Nails must be clean as well.

Avoid wearing the following on a job interview:

·         Jeans

·         Shorts

·         Visible underwear

·         Too short skirts

·         Sneakers or flip-flops

·         Revealing blouses and trousers

·         Unclean dress

The following should be brought to an interview:

·         Extra copies of resume and letter of reference

·         Notes during pre-interview research

·         Relevant certifications

·         Chewing gum or breath mints

·         Pens

·         Tissue

·         Spare tights

·         Silent-mode phone

Preparation

It is important to keep in mind all the information in the resume as well as the employment history. Interviewers should not be answered by unsure answers especially if it is about the background of the applicant. Focus on the competent side of the resume since it serves as the leverage of the applicant. Observe proper posture and etiquette during the interview and avoid unnecessary actions or expressions that could manifest something.

Be Punctual

Attending an interview must be taken seriously. Applicants should be mindful of the time. Arriving 30 minutes ahead of the schedule is the recommended one. Avoid arriving too early because it could affect the performance in general since the waiting part is too tiring and boring sometimes. Deal with the receptionist or secretary with utmost courtesy.

During the interview

·         Greet courteously

·         Maintain proper posture

·         Breath properly

·         Pay close attention to questions and let the interviewer finish before answering it

·         Approach the process in a conversational but professional manner

·         Do not take your sudden mistakes seriously

·         Be mindful of the body language

·         Whenever deemed necessary, ask questions that are relevant to the interview process

·         Don’t panic
