The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the National Boards published the advance copy of the new mandatory notification guidelines and other supporting materials.
Covering health practitioners, like Nurses and GPs, and registered students the guideline primarily outlines the necessary mandatory notification requirements.
This aims to educate employers, practitioners and education providers to determine who is needed to make mandatory notification and when.
Summary of Changes
The revision within the guidelines was abiding by the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, which was passed in 2019.
Among the major changes were the reporting obligations, increased risk threshold regarding impairment reports and practices that depart from the occupation. These changes provide a limitation for practitioners in making mandatory notifications. Besides, the practitioners are given the confidence to demand help for particular conditions.
Mandatory notification requirements are different in various notifier groups. This made the revisions completely applicable to these different notifier groups because it is now appropriated.
Provided that limited circumstances are allowed to make mandatory notifications for students, guidelines provided are now differentiated for students and practitioners.
There are a number of resources developed to support the new mandatory notification requirements.
