2020 Australia Day honours list applauded the contribution of general practice to the nation.
There are six GPs who were the recipients of the award due to their noticeable contribution to the sector:
· Dr. Ian Chung OAM, New South Wales
· Dr. Micheal Connor OAM, Victoria
· Dr. Vincent Gallichio OAM, Victoria
· Dr. Wesley Jame OAM, Victoria
· Dr. Anthony Lian-Lloyd OAM, South Australia
· Dr. Gunvantrai Naker OAM, New South Wales
RACGP President Dr. Harry Nespolon expressed his congratulations to the said GPs.
He said that the award is a manifestation of their tireless contribution to the nation. He added that the following GPs are the testament to the relevance of general practice in Australian communities.
Dr. James Muecke, a South Australian surgeon received the Australian of the Year due to his major involvement in healthcare. He said that the award would serve as an advocate for developments in the sector specifically diabetes-related eye disease and a push for a sugar tax.
