Bone Clinic Leads the Osteoporosis Management Program in the World

Bone Clinic Leads the Osteoporosis Management Program in the World

Published By Anjana , 3 years ago

The Bone Clinic, a Queensland-based research facility, and practice provide services specifically for osteoporosis. From targeted exercise therapy to education, dietary advice to bone scans, name it, The Bone Clinic has it.

Professor Belinda Beck founded the Bone Clinic and said that the practice entertains osteoporosis issues, making it unique.

She said that orthopaedic surgeons might perform hip replacements without having enough knowledge about managing osteoporosis.

Usually, GPs resort to endocrinologists and rheumatologists' services and guidance, believing that osteoporosis is connected to hormones and medicine. Professor Beck believes otherwise.

It is essential to understand the nature of osteoporosis. The Bone Clinic conducts bone density scanning, nutritional advice, and functional assessments, including an Onero exercise program to provide the patients and GPs alike with information about the degenerative disease.

One is an evidence-based program aiming to prevent the threatening osteoporotic fracture. The exercise program helps the development of the bone.

The Osteoporosis Australia recommended the program for physiotherapist licensure.

There is ongoing research that seeks to identify specific types of exercise that will keep the bone healthy.

Professor Beck said that clinical trials were conducted at Griffith University over the past seven years to know more about the suitable exercise program for osteoporosis.

She added that although exercise can be beneficial, other activities pose a threat to the individual with such a condition.

It is the organisation's goal to apply the findings in practice, leading to the development of Onero.

Professor Beck highlighted the Onero exercise program's interesting feature, pointing out that people with osteoporosis can perform it.

Dawn Johnson, one of The Bone Clinic's clients, said that she developed osteoporosis at the age of 62.

Acceptance was an issue. However, once Ms. Johnson learned that The Bone Clinic could help her, she immediately pursued taking part in the program.

Professor Beck's experience with the exercise program is rooted in her experience with shin splints back in high school. She said that she believed that the treatment of such conditions is possible with this new program, after all.

During the pandemic, The Bone Clinic was closed for four months until it resumed operations recently.

Professor Beck said that it is vital for them to reopen as soon as possible due to clients' increasing needs that depend on them.

Currently, The Bone Clinic is committed to further investigating the possible output of combining the Onero exercise program and medications. Results are yet to come.
