Dutch healthcare giant Philipps announced the deployment of its Clinical Command Centre solution in WA’s East Metropolitan Health Service. The deployment aims to improve patient care while innovating the detection of patient deterioration.
As one of EMHS’s leading innovation strategies under the Health in A Virtual Environment (HIVE) program, the deployment of the Clinical Command Centre solution will be using a hub-and-spoke model of care in machine learning. The predictive analysis used will target the reduction of complications and mortality in patients.
HIVE clinicians will be alerted once a patient records sign of deterioration. Through this, clinicians will be able to act upon the needs of the patient by using their information, clinical systems, and data analytics to design the necessary clinical program for the patient.
The Clinical Command Centre is based at Royal Perth Hospital. It is expected in its first year that HIVE will be monitoring and managing patients across 11 different wards in hospitals across WA. The HIVE will be operated by one clinician and two nurses in a 24/7 operation.
The new service will deliver a wide range of benefits to the healthcare system of WA. This includes the reduction of the length of stay for a patient that is admitted to a monitored bed. It can also help in reducing the likelihood of readmissions through predictive analysis. Moreover, it can alleviate the strain caused by patient transfers from one hospital to another. Lastly, it can enhance the patient and staff experience with considerable financial benefits
