The availability of the Australian Government’s supply of influenza vaccine will be secured by April 2020. There are local supply arrangements provided through the National Immunisation Program (NIP). Here are the some:
· People in the age range 6 months to 5 years old are eligible
· For people aged 65 years and older would be given a Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine
· New vaccines appropriate for various ages will be now available
· Australian Technical Advisory Group will provide guidelines regarding the vaccines this year 2020.
The funding of influenza vaccination under the NIP will be allotted for a large range of groups with increased risk of acquiring influenza.
· 6 months to less than 5 years
· Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged 6 months
· Pregnant women
· 65 years old and older
· 6 months with medical conditions
Timing of vaccination
Primarily, the efficiency of the protection through vaccines is secured within the first three to four months after vaccination. It is important to assure the appropriate timing to secure the highest level of protection for the people. June to September is the usual range when Australia is vulnerable.
