🩺 Health of the Nation 2025: Key Findings

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has released its annual Health of the Nation report, revealing significant challenges and shifts in general practice:

⏱️ Increased Consultation Times: The average GP consultation has risen to 19.7 minutes, up from 17.7 minutes in 2022, reflecting the growing complexity of cases being managed in general practice.

📈 Rising Case Complexity: Approximately 86% of GPs are handling conditions typically managed by specialists, often due to patient cost concerns and limited access to specialists.

⬇️ Declining Bulk Billing: Only 12% of GPs are bulk billing all patients, a significant decrease from previous years, highlighting financial pressures on general practice.

💡 Notably, the 2025 report highlights that 71% of GPs identified mental health as a top reason for patient presentations, marking a 10% increase since the survey's inception in 2017.
