In Practice: Mental Health Education

In Practice: Mental Health Education

Published By Victoria , 2 years ago

Eligible GPs who undergo Focused Psychological Strategies Skills Training will be reimbursed and given the opportunity to submit feedback.

This week's In Practice roundup also contains information about the inaugural Practice Owners Masterclass, which will begin in early 2022, and how members may improve their experience by offering important feedback.

Subsidy for Focused Psychological Strategies Skills Training

Eligible GPs may now apply for a $600 stipend to complete approved Focused Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST).

GPs must meet the following requirements to be deemed eligible for the FPS ST subsidy:

  • be working as a GP or GP in training in Australia presently
  • enroll in and pay for accredited FPS ST after 1 August 2021
  • successfully complete the requirements of the accredited FPS ST after 1 August 2021
  • be registered as a GP provider of FPS with Services Australia (Medicare) after 1 August 2021

The General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) invites all GPs, especially those in training and those practising in rural and distant MMM 3–7 regions, to apply.

More information regarding the training subsidies and qualifying requirements may be found on the GPMHSC website or by contacting the GPMHSC Secretariat.

Responses to mental health education and training

In addition, the GPMHSC is requesting GPs to participate in a brief survey on mental health training and education.

The survey responses will help the GPMHSC understand preferences for how training and education are offered, as well as the needs for continuing professional development (CPD) in mental health.

The survey results will also be used to update the Mental health training standards 2020–22: A guidance for general practitioners for the CPD triennium 2023–25.

Fill out the survey online.

Standards for infection prevention and control are being updated

In 2022, the RACGP will update the Infection Prevention and Control Standards for General Practice and Other Office-Based and Community-Based Practices, ensuring that the information offered reflects current research and best practice.

The new resource will be developed by a technical working group, and a draft will be sent to members and stakeholders for comment.

The college is looking for comments from members on the present resource, namely its content, degree of information, and structure. More information about the update and how to participate may be found on the RACGP consultations website.

Masterclass for RACGP Practice Owners: 2022 Roadshow

The inaugural Practice Owners Masterclass will be held in Brisbane in February as part of a series of ten roadshows around the nation in 2022.

Each Practice Owners Masterclass is a one-day interactive program centered on a current clinic case study of two GP owners, with the goal of guiding participants through the creation of a successful business and strategic plan.

Each educational program is a CPD Accredited Activity with a limited number of spots and is eligible for 40 CPD points.

The first masterclass will be held in Brisbane on Saturday, February 19th.

Online registration is available.

The most recent White Book update

Abuse and violence: Working with our patients in general practice (White Book) has been updated to the fifth version.

The White Book provides evidence-based recommendations to health practitioners on proper identification and response in clinical practice to individuals facing abuse and violence.

All chapters have been updated with the most recent evidence on abuse and violence, the majority of which happens inside the victim's or survivor's family or by someone the victim/survivor knows.

Six additional chapters have been added to the latest version of the White Book:

  • Providing assistance to guys who have been abused or harmed by their personal partners.
  • In general practice, trauma-informed treatment is provided.
  • Adolescent-on-adolescent violence
  • Abuse aided by technology and dating violence
  • Abuse and violence in LGBTIQA+ families
  • Education and training for healthcare workers on intimate partner violence and abuse

We're looking for comments on member insurance

The RACGP wants to know how to effectively tailor insurance-related advantages to its members.

Members are urged to share their thoughts and ideas on the critical process by taking an eight-minute survey to assist the college to define the benefits experience.
