Ms. Callie Westbrook waited roughly 6 years on public dental in physical and emotional pain because of the expensive dental cost in public dental clinics.
According to the Grattan Institute’s Program Director Stephen Duckett, Ms. Westbrook is not the only one experiencing that dilemma. There are 2 million Australians missing out their dental care every year because it’s very costly.
Australians are spending $10 billion per year on dental care, however, very few are covered by Medicare or other health cards.
As per the Grattan Institute report, 58% of all dental work was paid directly in full by patients compared to just 11% for other main healthcare services.
Healthcare experts are saying that the costs and not enough government support is letting the decay to grow.
In 2016–2017, more than 70,000 went to the hospital due to dental issues.
