Preparing For The ‘Patient Of The Future’

Preparing For The ‘Patient Of The Future’

Published By HealthcareLink , 4 years ago

Mark McCrindle, the GP19 keynote speaker was enthusiastic about discussing the relationship between doctors and patients in the future.

The world is currently experiencing a fast-paced development brought about by technological advances which affect how communication occurs between each person. It cannot be denied that these changes and advancements in technology affect the doctor-patient relationship.

According to Mr. McCrindle, patients in the present day as well as in the future are more empowered to the extent that they aren’t passive anymore in interacting with their providers. The trend brought about by the fast-paced development in our society leans towards an instant response. Patients are more proactive in maximising technology for their benefit and to satisfy their needs.

This new trend also brings with it a new challenge: how is communication is being done this that era?

Mr. McCrindle, the head of McCrindle Research, a social and market company based in Australia, is positive about helping GPs understand how to discuss this challenge. With enthusiasm, Mr. McCrindle believes that the proper knowledge about larger social trends can allow GPs to give context to their work, which in return could give positive results with their patient interactions.

Furthermore, the direct correlation of population growth with the increasing demand for primary healthcare, and increasing cultural diversity that happens in the cities of Australia may have huge implications on the social trends of the present day. Mr. McCrindle recognises that there is an existing generational change wherein people are more likely to use Google than to consult with their GPs. This particular tendency is the effect of thriving technological improvement.

Alongside with the spurt of progress witnessed by people, there are also positive developments in healthcare. These developments leave a direct impact on the life expectancy of the people, which is and has constantly been increasing over the last few decades. This particular development also creates change for Australians that may be used to a pattern in their lifestyle and working practices in general.

However, Mr. McCrindle is also aware of the challenges that the development brings with it. One of the best examples of the challenges would be the issue of health records and its vulnerability to privacy hacks and data breaches.

Another issue involves the problem and matter of succession planning, which confronts many practice owners in the present day. Mr. McCrindle is planning to address these matters by providing in his keynote speech the possible ways of engaging and communication that should be done by the doctors. With his keynote speech, he is optimistic in talking with GPs that could contribute to the Australiana community.

This initiative could lead to supporting and empowering not only GPs but also the greater Australian community.
