There are different types of physiotherapy. In each type, exercise-based and hands-on manual techniques are used. Here are the common types of physiotherapy:

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy

Also known as orthopaedic physiotherapy, this type of physiotherapy deals with the restoration of function in the musculoskeletal system including bones, joints, ligaments, nerves, muscles, and tendons. Musculoskeletal physiotherapists are equipped with training and expertise to identify issues such as chronic pain, pain management, increasing mobilisation, and correcting skeletal alignment.

Geriatric physiotherapy

Focuses on the movements of older adults. They are trained in managing conditions such as arthritis, cancer, balance disorders, and joint replacements. Primarily, the goal of geriatric physiotherapists is to restore mobility that is affected by old age, pain reduction, and improvement of physical fitness and overall health.

Children’s physiotherapy

This variety of physiotherapy deals with the needs of adolescents, children, and toddlers. They are experts in assessing developmental, neuromuscular, skeletal, and other physical disorders that come along with growing up. The key to this is early detection and early intervention.

Sports physiotherapy

Sports physiotherapists are concerned with athlete management. They focus on the initial assessment and diagnosis of injuries, treatment, and rehabilitation, preventative measures, and education on risk factors in physical activities.

Women’s Health physiotherapy

Women’s physiotherapy is focused on managing the various aspects of women’s physical nature. They are experts in providing assessments and therapies in areas of the reproductive system, childbirth, and prenatal and postnatal care.

Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy

They specialise in the prevention, rehabilitation, and recovery of patients that suffer from diseases and conditions that are related to the cardiovascular system of the body. They can give intervention measures for patients with various lung and heart conditions.
