To provide peer support for practitioners to help with clinical dilemmas in mental health
To reinforce learning from face-to-face workshops
• To encourage participants to integrate eMH resources into day to day clinical practice
Many GPs in Black Dog Institute's face-to-face training programs request more support for their work in mental health, particularly those working in rural and regional areas.
The evidence suggests that a face-to-face learning experience does not change behaviour or patient outcomes unless there is follow up.
In response, Black Dog Institute, with funding from the Federal government under the e-Mental Health in Practice Project, has established and online Mental Health Community of Practice which aims to support health practitioners in their efforts to efficiently and appropriately manage patients with mental health disorders. This community provides peer-to-peer support and multidisciplinary learning.
Our case discussion groups provide an additional form of support for practitioners, giving them the opportunity to discuss difficult issues/cases with their peers online and in real time led by an experienced facilitator.
