183138 - The Cutting Edge: Introductory GP Wound Suturing Workshop

  • : Online

This highly practical workshop aims to introduce the GP & Nurse Practitioner to the fundamental knowledge & techniques required for patient assessment, suturing & knot tying skills. This workshop is of particular relevance to GPS & Nurse Practitioners with limited clinical exposure to minor surgical techniques & those wishing to consolidate experience. It is strongly recommended as a foundation suturing workshop for GPS wishing to attend CTEC's Managing Skin & soft Tissue Injuries workshop.

Relevance to General Practice

Practice

This activity has been developed by CTEC to fill a GP Suturing requirement by the convenor, senior surgical faculty and CTEC education team who have identified a deficiency in the appropriate level of suturing skills by a number of GPs attending the more advanced CTEC surgical skills workshops this year. Discussion with GPs on the day has revealed many are not getting clinical experience within metropolitan practices who refer patients requiring minor surgery to hospitals, thus depriving GPs the opportunity to practice minor surgical skills. Other GP participants have not kept up with their CPD in practical suturing skills and the following articles bear this observation out. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5553478/
