191552 - Introductory Ultrasound for Emergency Medicine

  • : Online

This five day course will provide expert point of care ultrasound educators and plenty of hands-on scanning of real people so that you develop the skills necessary to use your ultrasound system effectively and troubleshoot image optimisation for better diagnosis.

Good skills in ultrasound will allow you to
• guide procedures for better patient outcomes
• diagnose abdominal aneurysms and arrange timely delivery of care
• perform eFAST exams for quick and accurate diagnosis in trauma
• identify and manage acute cardiac and respiratory conditions with confidence
• perform assessment of the undifferentiated shocked patient and identify possible causes

Relevance to General Practice

Many rural and remote GP’s work in isolation from other commonly available support services such as formal sonography, radiology and emergency. With ultrasound systems becoming increasingly affordable and more portable, imaging is now available at the bedside allowing GP’s to assess patients in a timely fashion and improve outcomes.

There’s clear evidence that ultrasound is better than a physical exam alone, decreasing the overall cost of care and increasing diagnostic efficiency and patient satisfaction. It’s also proven to increase the safety of procedures.

An increase in diagnostic accuracy allows for health resources to be utilised effectively and can reduce the number of out-patient and in-patient visits and emergency admissions.

Being skilled in ultrasound means having information available at your fingertips to increase your capability and confidence in managing your patients.
