90507 - Rural Emergency Assessment Clinical Training (REACT) Day two

  • : Online

REACT Day 2 provides teaching and assessment of a number of drills (sequences of skills) directly related to the four areas in a simulated clinical scenario environment.
1) Basic airway management
2) Basic life support (including shock advisory defibrillation)
3) Application of the advanced life support algorithm
4) Primary survey of the trauma patient.

Relevance to General Practice

As part of clinical practice in rural emergency departments, doctors will occasionally face critically ill or injured patients requiring assessment, decision-making and management. These may be time-critical events and occur in situations where help is not readily available. Ongoing review and practice is required to maintain an acceptable level of knowledge and skills proficiency since management deteriorates over time. These are uncommon clinical occurrences, and this course does not take into account the wide range of clinical practice required by a doctor in an emergency department. However, these areas are important indicators for management of critically ill patients, and the principles of management can be generalized to many other critical conditions. The REACT Course has been designed to allow upskilling in the four key areas, and provides a validated assessment process that may assist with potential credentialing requirements.
