Interactive online course requiring the clinician to consider a range of the clinical problems and scenarios. Acute Orthopaedic injury is a common emergency presentation and occurs across all age groups with injuries ranging from minor through to limb or even life threatening.

Relevance to General Practice

The courses explores the assessment, radiological findings and the management of bone and soft tissue injuries of the upper limb. The course is divided into the following key areas : 
1 Assessment of Limb Injury 
2 Upper Limb Injuries 
3 Splinting Limb Injuries 

Learning outcomes
  • Identify the immediate priorities in the assessment and management of the patient presenting with limb injury
  • List fractures associated with a high risk for serious complications
  • Identify the type of plaster cast used for management of fracture of the distal radius, scaphoid fracture, boxers fractures and fractures to the lower limb
  • Describe the discharge advice and follow up for patients with limb casts
  • Identify fractures associated with a high risk for complication and requiring urgent referral to orthopaedic services
