Atypical melanoma - what's new in diagnosis and management

This activity is designed to update GPs on the recognition and management of atypical melanoma, in line with the recently updated national clinical practice guidelines.

Relevance to General Practice

This activity highlights the GP’s role in preventing delay in the diagnosis of atypical melanoma, and provides an opportunity to practice recognising features of atypical melanoma.

Learning outcomes
  • Identify features of history and examination that should raise suspicion of atypical melanoma
  • Identify information to include in pathology request for biopsy of suspicious lesion, interpret and explain pathology report to patient including what follow-up action to take
  • Summarise recent changes in national melanoma guidelines that affect the management of atypical melanoma in general practice
