A Review of Depression – including Bipolar Disorder
- : Online
“Depressive and bipolar disorders affect 6.2% of Australians aged 16-85 years in a given year. The most common of these is major depressive disorder which affects 4.1% of people in any one year.”
In this webinar we will explore major depressive disorder. The incidence will be discussed, the signs and symptoms reviewed, and the intervention and treatments investigated. Suicidal thoughts and behaviours as well as non-suicidal self-injury will be revised.
Remember 1 in 5 people in Australia will experience a mental health illness this year. That means that no matter where you practice Nursing you will at some time be working with a client/patient who has, or is experiencing, a mental health issue. You will need to be skilled enough to recognise this as well as support and assist them until you can refer them to a mental health specialist team member.
In this session you will:
- Gain an understanding of depression
- Explore the incidence of depression in Australia
- Review the symptoms of depression
- Investigate the current treatment options available
