This micro skills course will consider the management of disabled children who are at increased risk of abuse and neglect. Healthcare staff coming into contact with children with disability include: paediatricians, GPs, health visitors, community paediatric nurses, therapists – physio, OT and SALT, child psychologists and psychiatrists, paediatric and orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthetists, dentists and others

 

What will I learn?

  • By the end of this session you will be able to:
  • Identify key features of neglect in a disabled child;
  • Judge what information on a child and family should be shared with others;
  • Develop awareness of the local systems and resources available to support a child in need;
  • Describe the role of the named doctor for child protection in providing support and advice;
  • Produce a clear report outlining the health needs of a disabled child and the implications for the child of any failure to meet those needs, should you be required to do so
