Perinatal in Practice 
This workshop aims to introduce health professionals to the current understanding of perinatal mood disorders and its management, using lecture, case studies and interactive exercises. 
The workshop will cover: 
• the psychosocial stressors that commonly affect parents in the perinatal period 
• screening women for perinatal mood disorders using a screening tool and clinical interview 
• Diagnosing perinatal mood disorders as distinct from commonly experienced adjustment difficulties 
• Assessing the risk of untreated perinatal depression for the mother-baby dyad 
• medications for pregnant and breastfeeding women when pharmacological treatment is indicated 
• Developing a comprehensive management plan using a MHTP for women with perinatal mood disorders

Relevance to General Practice

The program presents an approach to assessing and managing perinatal mood disorders that is practical and easily applied in practice, covering 5 main topic areas associated with perinatal and women's health. Each topic area is discussed in detail, using case studies as a basis for demonstrating effective completion of that topic and discussion to explore any particular challenges that may arise in clinical application. Skills practice opportunities give participants the opportunity to gain experience of using these new skills in practice.

2. Diagnosing Perinatal Mood Disorders 
3. Pharmacological Treatment & Postpartum Psychosis 
4. Non-Pharmacological Management 
5. Caring for the Family Unit
