This 5 day workshop focuses on learning flap and graft procedures. A thorough exploration of the concepts of skin flap surgery is explored with multiple exercises on pigs trotters and hocks. The course also includes an in depth education program on the management of BCCs, SCCs, melanomata and some other rare skin cancers. Knowledge of essentials curriculum assumed.

Relevance to General Practice

Doctors in General Practice manage approximately 70% of skin cancers in the Australian community. This course provides appropriate theoretical and practical training to enable General Practitioners to best manage skin cancer in this setting.

Learning outcomes
  • a) Outline the treatment process for an abnormal melanocytic lesion including the excisional biopsy technique for an accurate diagnosis
  • b) Examine the giving rise to the current management of melanomata, SCCs, BCCs and some rare types of skin cancers.
  • c) Evaluate the role of other therapies to assist in the management of field cancerization and malignant lesions.
  • d) Describe and recognise the role of local anaesthesia and identify the dangers zones, when treating skin cancers on the face.
  • e) Discuss the correlation between cutaneous malignancies and dermatopathology.
