114377 - MIPS How to explain uncertainty to patients WEBINAR

  • : Online

A webinar available to all MIPS members focussing on the need to effectively communicate the uncertainty around healthcare to patients. This can occur with a diagnosis, prognosis, discussion around the need for surgery, need for a second opinion and outcomes after an error. This is an issue which can worry many practitioners and delivering the correct information in the correct manner to the correct patient is important and assist in defending complaints and or claims. This will be a formatted Q & A session where MIPS clinico legal adviser Dr Rob Walters will probe Dr Ranjana Srivastava, Oncologist, Physician , writer and seasoned media performer on these vital communication and consent skills.

Relevance to General Practice

GPs form a considerable proportion of MIPS members. Many complaints and claims involving GPs contain allegations of sub optimal communications around uncertainty of outcomes. It is an area in which many practitioners can improve the level of communication as a risk minimisation tool.
