Blistering skin conditions are common and occur in a variety of clinical situations. A number of bullous diseases cause significant morbidity and mortality. A systematic approach to assessment, including thorough history, full-body examination and investigations guided by clinical presentation, leads to accurate diagnosis and early referral to appropriate specialists. The treatment of immunobullous skin disease in particular requires ongoing holistic follow-up by the GP to minimise therapy-related consequences.
