117941 - InfinityPATH Skin Surgical Audit 2019

  • : Online

Skin Surgical audit will provide referring doctors with relevant, statistical peer comparisons that can assist in refining the diagnostic and collection skills associated with the collection of skin lesions. Participants are provided with statistically relevant feedback about their own practice in comparison to that of their nominated peer group as well as the GP cohort. Our skin cancer surgical audit is a national program involving GPs. The clinical audit is open to all doctors and will be conducted each year for the triennium.

Relevance to General Practice

2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. GPs have over 1 million patient consultations per year for skin cancer. Medicare records show there were 974 767 treatments for squamous and basal cell carcinoma skin cancers in 2015 - that's more than 2500 skin cancer treatments every day. Basal and squamous cell carcinoma skin cancers accounted for almost one quarter of all cancer-related hospitalisations in 2010-11. The cost to the health system of these skin cancers alone is estimated to be more than 4500 million annually.
