118766 - Neuropathic pain: a roadmap for diagnosis and management - Clinical Audit
- : Online
This Clinical e-Audit helps GPs reflect on their management of patients with neuropathic pain, with an emphasis on diagnosis and pharmacological management.
Due to the low prevalence of neuropathic pain, this Clinical e-Audit requires data to be submitted for only FIVE (5) patients.
Neuropathic pain is shown to have a prevalence of 5 – 8% in Australian studies and General practitioner have a pivotal role to play in the diagnosis and management of this condition.
Because of the complexity in pain presentations, the diagnosis and management of neuropathic pain can be very challenging. Accurate diagnosis is key to adopting the correct management approach as neuropathic pain treatment options are different to those recommended for nociceptive pain.
This Clinical e-Audit will address the grading system for neuropathic pain diagnosis, and discuss the importance of taking a targeted history and conducting a physical examination to establish a probable neuropathic pain diagnosis. It will also focus on optimising treatment through an individualised, stepwise approach, incorporating realistic goals and pain management plans, for pain relief and improved function.
