119449 - How to Treat quiz: Bowel cancer screening in Australia in 2018

  • : Online
Relevance to General Practice

The mortality rate from colorectal cancer has halved over the past 30 years as a result of earlier-stage of diagnosis combined with advances in endoscopic, surgical, medical and oncological management.
The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) was launched in 2006 and uptake rates are still low, despite evidence that early detection reduces the mortality rate. This then raises the question of why there are not more participants in such a successful screening strategy.
