120045 - Healthed - Diabetes Management ALM

  • : Online

This ALM will address certain areas in diabetes with the aim to provide GPs with the latest research and practical information on diabetes management - from identifying those at risk right through to treating and managing patients with this condition. This ALM will include a series of videos, quizzes and case studies to view and complete.

Relevance to General Practice

Diabetes is a health priority and concern in Australia. Increasing obesity rates, lifestyle and dietary changes, and an ageing population has lead to the growing number of people with type 2 diabetes. The number of people in Australia with type 2 diabetes is estimated to increase from 870,000 in 2014, to more than 2.5 million, placing pressure on the health system and economy. If left undiagnosed or poorly managed, Type 2 diabetes can lead to coronary artery disease (CAD), kidney failure, stroke, limb amputations and blindness, therefore early identification and optimal management of people with type 2 diabetes is critical.
