Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the top 20 most common reasons for presentation to primary care. According to Kidney Health Australia, around one in two women and one in 20 men will develop a UTI in their lifetime. In addition, RACGP has found that 4% of patients in residential care facilities develop recurrent UTIs. A study on non-pregnant young women in the US showed around one-quarter experienced at least one recurrence within six months of their initial infection, further highlighting the pervasiveness of recurrent UTIs worldwide.
