SimGP is an innovative digital simulation program designed specifically for GPs. It presents a real-world patient scenario, with a non-specific presentation, similar to real-world GP clinical practice. The workshop provides an opportunity to use a consultative diagnostic approach and engage with your peers to investigate and uncover the underlying condition. During this workshop you will have an opportunity to tackle two virtual patient consultation simulations (simGP), and engage with your colleagues to discuss best practice. Following the simulation, you will have an opportunity to participate in a debrief with an expert specialist. This will be a chance to review current best practice and discuss the practical challenges raised during the simulated consultation.

Relevance to General Practice

Poor bladder control is a common health condition. In Australia, the prevalence of urinary incontinence has been reported at 42%.1 A recent survey of Australian GP waiting rooms indicated that around 30% of participants with urinary incontinence, had spoken to a healthcare professional about it.2 This effectively illustrates the disconnect between the number of patients with urinary incontinence and whether they have discussed this with their GP. Overactive bladder (OAB) is a symptom complex that consists of urinary urgency, usually accompanied by frequency and nocturia. OAB is recognised as a common disorder affecting quality of life (QOL), and there is also a significant economic cost involved. In Australia in 2010, the total financial cost of urinary incontinence (UI) (excluding burden of disease) was estimated to be nearly $43 billion.
