  • : Online

This activity updates general practitioners (GPs) on immunisation guidelines for adult Australians and general practice requirements for vaccine storage and delivery. It particularly focuses on recommendation changes in the 10th edition of The Australian Immunisation Handbook (2013; updated August 2017). The activity is comprised of 25 multiple choice questions that will take approximately 1 hour to complete.

There are 25 multiple choice questions to answer. Questions are designed primarily to stimulate thought about the topics covered, and are not representative of the style of questions found in the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT), Key Feature Problem (KFP), Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) or other RACGP assessments. Completion of this activity has been approved by the RACGP QI&CPD Program for 2 Category 2 points in the 2017–2019 triennium.

Relevance to General Practice

Hospitalisations and deaths due to vaccine-preventable diseases occur in adults. In the 4-year period between 2008 and 2011, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) National Mortality Database recorded over 700 deaths in adults due to vaccine-preventable diseases, predominantly pneumococcus, influenza and herpes zoster. However in 2017, 745 death were attributed to laboratory confirmed influenza alone.
