  • : Online
Relevance to General Practice

Domestic and family violence affects up to one in five households and is transmitted from generation to generation. It causes untold suffering in the form of behavioural issues and mental illness, as well as increased risk of physical illness, including obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Domestic and family violence tends to occur under the radar and is considered a fact of life; so, up to this point, it has been given little attention in medical training. Yet, it damages the social, health and economic fabric of our communities.
It has been estimated through research that GP could potentially could see up to five cases a week, but are usually unaware of what lies beneath the presentation.
