132861 - Immunisation - A Training Course for GPs - e-learning

  • : Online

The activity aims to provide appropriate immunisation training to assist providers in having the communication skills, facts and knowledge to effectively answer patient immunisation questions, undertake appropriate pre-vaccination screening, safely administer vaccines and appropriately document vaccines given.

Relevance to General Practice

The course is particularly suited to GPs who are new to immunising or who are new to immunising in Australia, although it is suitable for any GP who wishes to improve their immunisation knowledge. GPs, even those who are comfortable with their immunisation knowledge may have significant gaps, specifically related to immunisation contraindications, which may result in missed vaccination opportunities or unsafe vaccination, and this activity aims to fill these gaps.

Learning outcomes
  • Utilise course reference materials to advocate for immunisation focussing on prevention and communicating the benefits
  • Identify vaccination opportunities and construct an appropriate catch-up schedule for individuals
  • Undertake pre-vaccination screening, preparation for vaccination and the immediate management of an adverse event following immunisation
  • Accurately record immunisation encounters into patient records and the AIR
