Heavy menstrual bleeding is the most common reason for women of reproductive age to be referred to a gynaecologist. This condition significantly impacts on quality of life for the woman, her immediate family and colleagues. This can be due to physical symptoms such as tiredness and breathlessness secondary to anaemia, and interference with social life and emotional problems, for example, depression secondary to anaemia, which can occur alone or in combination with other symptoms.
