Relevance to General Practice

GORD affects up to 20% of the Western population and imposes a high financial burden on the community. The estimated prevalence of childhood GORD is at 1.3-3.3% and up to 11.6% of patients attending general practice in Australia are diagnosed with GORD.
Distinguishing between GOR and GORD remains a challenge. The GP has a key role in identifying children with GORD and their treatment course.
