Core Obstetric Ultrasound for Registrars (OREG) courses focus on developing the theoretical and practical skills necessary to set you on the path towards ultrasound competency. 
With over 9 hours of practical, hands on scanning this course has been specifically designed for trainees and registrars.

Relevance to General Practice

As ultrasound equipment becomes increasingly mobile and affordable, rural practitioners are utilizing ultrasound across a broad range of clinical applications in general practice and particularly in the management of obstetric patients. The need for physicians to undertake formal training to develop their skills in this area is widely recognized by medical organizations, colleges and professional bodies, including ACEM and RANZCOG.

Learning outcomes
  • Modify ultrasound system controls to attain basic practical proficiency in image optimisation
  • Utilise the calculations package to perform foetal biometry measurements, assessment of AFI and umbilical artery Doppler
  • Demonstrate basic practical proficiency in performing the following sonographic examinations: TA pelvic, 1st / 3rd Trimester, Foetal Wellbeing & Biometry
  • Discuss the normal foetal development and sonographic anatomy in the first trimester
  • Determine the foetal presentation, placental location and cervical assessment
