Hot Topics GP Update is series of lectures delivered by GPs for GPs on the latest medical research in General Practice. This audit activity can be completed by GPs that have attended the face-to-face event or watched the online videos.

Relevance to General Practice

The aim of the GP update course is to provide GPs with an overview of the latest evidence in clinical practice for General Practice and to assist them to deliver better patient care. The course content includes a summary of the evidence published in peer-reviewed journals, national guidelines and other reputable sources in the previous 12 months. This audit activity is design for GPs to apply the new knowledge gained through the education sessions by conducting a series of patient audits on particular patient groups.

Learning outcomes
  • Increase awareness of eating disorders and recognise that diagnosis is often delayed in this patient group.
  • Identify presentations that should trigger further assessment and implement screening tools, particularly for at risk groups.
  • Review the care needs for patients with a suspected or confirmed eating disorder including the assessment of medical and psychological safety.
  • Develop the skills to perform a targeted history and physical examination in patients if the diagnosis is considered.
  • Implement broader system changes in your practice to recognise and treat eating disorders.
