- : Online
Using the ECHO model(TM) to empower GPs to manage behaviour and mental health within the context of the family and the community environment. This will be achieved by training GPs via the ECHO model(TM) - consisting of telementoring, collaborative medical education and facilitated case presentations enabling experts to disseminate their knowledge to large numbers of GPs.Relevance to General Practice
Behavioural and mental health is a growing health and economic burden globally. 1 in 6 children in Qld are developmentally vulnerable with PHN and Hospital and Health Services whole of Region identifying prevalence rates for children with behavioural issues, anxiety, ASD, ADHD, learning difficulties, bullying, self-harm, mood disorders and gender identity issues. In addition children's psychosocial wellbeing, educational attainment and quality of life can be severely effected if not addressed in a timely way. Effective behaviour and mental health management in childhood and adolescence will minimise the risk of continuity/severity persisting into adulthood.
GPs have a vital role in identifying and treating behavioural and mental health conditions in the community. This course will aim to address barriers raised by GPs, including limited training or resources, not feeling confident or finding behavioural and mental health conditions difficult to manage without support.
