147788 - Anxiety: Effective recognition, assessment and management - Clinical Audit

  • : Online

This Clinical e-Audit provides GPs with the opportunity to review assessment and treatment of patients with an anxiety disorder and self-reflect on prescribing practice.

Relevance to General Practice

Anxiety is the most common mental health problem reported in Australia, and one of the chronic problems most frequently managed by GPs.

Over the last 10 years, there have been significant increases in patient presentations of anxiety, however international evidence suggests that many people with anxiety disorders still remain undiagnosed, as individuals are likely to delay seeking help for many years. Patient awareness and education about anxiety symptoms can help both GPs and patients recognize and assess anxiety symptoms.

This Clinical e-Audit will review the assessment and treatment of patients with an anxiety disorder. It will provide the opportunity for GPs to reflect on evidence-based psychological treatment options and receive clarification on pharmacological management approaches.

Learning outcomes
  • Distinguish between acute anxiety and an anxiety disorder
  • Assess severity of anxiety disorder to guide discussions with the patient about treatment options.
  • Discuss and agree on expectations of psychological treatment with the patient
