Critical Consultations in Osteoporosis is an Active Learning Module (ALM) that combines a 4-hour face-to-face workshop with a 2 hour back-in-practice activity to make the education relevant to the GPs’ own practice. The workshops will be facilitated around Australia by a local GP and a specialist.

Relevance to General Practice

Critical Consultations in Osteoporosis aims to examine three critical consultations in the diagnosis and management of chronic conditions; diagnostic investigations, initiating a management plan and long-term follow-up. It will focus on key the issues in the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis to prevent the morbidity and mortality with associated minimal trauma fractures. 

Learning outcomes
  • Implement strategies to prioritise & sequence consultations for chronic disease such as osteoporosis to ensure prompt diagnosis and effective ongoing management
  • Individualise anti-osteoporosis treatment based on the characteristics and preferences of the patient.
  • Utilise GP Management Plans or Team Care Arrangements when appropriate to manage osteoporosis.
  • Engage patients in a conversation about strategies to manage and reduce fracture risk and adherence to management.
