The Aboriginal Health GP Scholarship Program is a 10-week professional development placement designed to give local GPs insight into the some of the challenges faced by Aboriginal people accessing care and how to help overcome these barriers.

Relevance to General Practice

There are more than 12000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (respectfully referred to as hereafter as Aboriginal) living on Darkinjung country and most of them access mainstream General Practices for primary care. At the conclusion of the placement, GPs will feel confident addressing the needs of their Aboriginal clients attending General Practices on the Central Coast. The placement provides opportunity for GPs to improve their skills and delivery of services

  • Increased knowledge about close the gap and PIP Indigenous Health
  • Increased knowledge on local services available for Aboriginal People
  • Build supportive relationships with Aboriginal workforce on the Central Coast
