The National Diabetes Care Course has been developed by the National Association of Diabetes Centres (NADC) to provide healthcare providers in a range of general care settings with current knowledge of diabetes clinical management and self-care regulation.

Relevance to General Practice

The training program will support GP’s to develop standardised diabetes education that is customised and accessible to all people with diabetes. The training program ensures GP’s are well informed on evidence-based best practices of diabetes management.

Learning outcomes
  • Identify those at risk of developing diabetes and outline prevention strategies.
  • Identify and explain the major groups of diabetes complications.
  • Identify and explain the various management strategies for diabetes, including nutritional and exercise factors, care planning and medication management.
  • Identify basic problems with diabetes care and management and identify appropriate referral pathways.
  • Identify the varying considerations for groups with special needs (e.g. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, CALD groups, Children and Pregnant women.
