Relevance to General Practice

The Academic Unit of General Practice will be running a minimum of three workshops a year under the title 'Teach the Teacher'. These workshops will be offered only to GP's that are teaching within our medical school undertaking various clinical supervisor activities. The aim is to equip GP's with he skills needed to teach in a clinical setting in order to produce competent and safe future for GP's. 
The workshops will focus on how to teach medical students, clinical assessment and providing feedback to medial students in a clinical setting.

Learning outcomes
  • Describe what we expect a student to be able to do when taking a structured history from an older person
  • Describe how to enable students to differentiate between dementia, delirium and depression
  • Identify key screening tests for dementia that students are expected to know. Creating questions drafts/ideas to assess at year 3 level medical student
  • Revising year 3 level past exam questions: in mental health and elderly patients
  • Reflecting on how supervisors in clinical placement can help students prepare for exam questions on mental health and elderly patients.
