152603 - The role of modern radiation therapy in the treatment of skin cancer.

  • : Online

Evening with education forum and dinner with presentations and patient case discussions by key specialists to update GPs on modern radiotherapy as a treatment for extensive skin cancer.

Relevance to General Practice

There is a high prevalence of Australians diagnosed with skin cancer each year and GPs play a pivotal role in skin cancer detection and management. It has been found that although radiation therapy is a documented treatment method for cancer, there is a gap in the knowledge doctors have around this treatment type. This activity aims to use clinical knowledge, investigations, research and patient cases to outline the benefits, efficacy and safety of this treatment option so GPs can provide their patients with the most suitable advice and treatment options for their needs.

Learning outcomes
  • Integrate clinical or investigation information into the management of patients with Non Melanoma Skin Cancer
  • Understand new treatment options for extensive field cancerisation and patient referral criteria for management by a specialist
  • Describe the clinical benefits, efficacy and safety of radiation therapy for wide field skin cancer treatment
  • Understand the patient journey/experience of having radiation therapy as a treatment for skin cancer
