155245 - 2019 Single System Trauma Workshop

  • : Online

Interactive workshop covering limb injuries, splinting & plastering, real world analgesia, advanced suturing, burns & orofacial injuries. Each lecture will be followed by a practical simulation to reinforce learning.

Relevance to General Practice

The importance on continuing emergency education is identified by Hjortdahla et al (2016) when he comments that ‘GPs get less experience and feel more uncertain when encountering emergencies’. This programme allows local Emergency Physicians to provide training and support to General Practitioners who are providing, or may be called on to provide emergency medical care in rural hospitals and health centres. A major additional advantage of this program is the increased links, collegiality and respect developed between the clinicians. This effect works in both directions; the emergency physicians invariably gain an understanding of the constraints the general practitioners are working under In consultation with rural GPs and hospitals in North and North West Tasmania and the University of Tasmania, a program has been formulated to address recognised areas where skills are required or need to be refreshed.
