156291 - Do dying better - how a team approach can improve palliative care in your community

  • : Online

This workshop will focus on improving the quality of your patients’ lives in their last weeks and days and the impact of timely referral to support for both your patients and their families.

Relevance to General Practice

There is a great need for education of GPs in Palliative care skills, and introduction to current Palliative strategies to ensure that Palliative patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place, especially in the urban setting. The presentations will address the main issues in this field and will help to give GP's confidence in local care pathways that are currently underused or initiated too late to support patients approaching end of life.

Learning outcomes
  • Respond to the needs of the person who is dying and their family
  • Identify a number of treatment protocols for medications used in palliative care
  • Recognise the role of the multidisciplinary team in supporting people who are dying and their carers
  • Recognise the value of after death audits and discuss whether this could be implemented in their practice
