158327 - Basic Life Support Course
- : Online
The aim of this course is to familiarise participants with the Australian Resuscitation Council requirements for providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults, infants and children. The course will ensure the participant is familiar with the DRS ABCD steps of resuscitation.
Participants must undertake a clinical assessment demonstrating CPR and use of an Automated External Defibrillator on an adult, child and infant mannequin on the floor.
This assessment can be undertaken face to face or via Skype or similar medium with a CRANAplus approved assessor.
CRANAplus is a Registered Training Organisation and is accredited to deliver HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CRANAplus can deliver the course as either a unit of competency or not.
Evidence suggests the most important determinant of survival from sudden cardiac arrest is the presence of a trained rescuer who is ready, willing, able and equipped to act.
Furthermore, basic life support skills are expected of healthcare providers as part of their duty to respond. The RACGP Standards for General Practice (4th edition) recommends ‘practices need to have the necessary equipment for comprehensive primary care and resuscitation’.
CPR skills are used infrequently and as a result diminish therefore it is essential that GPs and their practice staff maintain their knowledge and skill to respond in an emergency.
