158744 - How to Treat quiz: Polycystic ovary syndrome

  • : Online
Relevance to General Practice

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine condition. It is independent of, yet exacerbated by, obesity. PCOS affects a significant proportion of women lifelong with metabolic, reproductive and psychological features. Most women remain undiagnosed because of the heterogeneity of clinical presentation. Therefore, awareness of this condition and its features is important for primary healthcare providers. This will avoid missing the diagnosis and assist with appropriate screening of all women with PCOS for the presence of potential metabolic, psychological and reproductive manifestations. This holistic approach provides the opportunity to implement appropriate preventative and therapeutic strategies.
