159597 - Medical Educator Skills - GP19 ALM

  • : Online

The aim of this workshop is to enhance the skills of medical educators and supervisors with respect to workplace based assessment, giving feedback and report writing.

Relevance to General Practice

Teaching, in the clinical setting, comes with a range of challenges for the new as well as the experienced medical educator and/or supervisor. Three such areas of challenge are: workplace based assessment, giving feedback and report writing. The purpose of assessment in the workplace is to determine whether the person being assessed (medical student, GP registrar or GP) is competent and practicing appropriately for the level that they are at. Assessment also provides useful information as regards the effectiveness, of the teaching that is being conducted. Feedback is essential so that the person who has undergone the assessment will be aware of their strengths and areas requiring improvement. A well written, comprehensive report can prove useful should there be a dispute regarding the learner's progress.
