160197 - Chronic hepatitis C: management in primary care - Clinical e-Audit

  • : Online

This Clinical e-Audit provides GPs with the opportunity to review and self-reflect on their diagnosis, assessment and management of patients with hepatitis C infection.

Relevance to General Practice

Chronic hepatitis C (HCV) infection is a major public health issue, leading to long-term liver disease, transplants and mortality. In 2017, approximately 95% of those who were treated were cured, yet only 11% of people living with chronic HCV infection received treatment during that year.

To achieve a commitment to WHO to eliminate hepatitis C in Australia by 2030, the role of GPs as frontline primary health care providers is critical. This quality improvement educational activity provides an update on diagnosis, pre-treatment assessment, and appropriate use of medical tests and medicines.

Learning outcomes
  • Recognise the tests required to confirm diagnosis and assess co-existing conditions to guide treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection
  • Identify patients for treatment and recognise patient and medicine factors that affect treatment selection and efficacy
  • Verify treatment success at 12 weeks post-treatment
  • Distinguish between the different options for assessing liver disease in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection
